The Back Log

I had my first surgery on October 25, 2004 - level three lumbar fusion with instrumentation, lamenectomy, removal of large synovial cyst at L-4/L5, two herniated discs (one replaced with artificial disc), lumbar scoliosis, spondylolysthesis (probably) caused by a sixth lumbar vertabrae. My second fusion surgery was on August 28, 2006. My third and most recent was February 24, 2011. I hope it will be my last, but my surgeon has now warned me that it might not be.

My Pain Management Doctor Says ... Part 2

I go in for my routine office visit and to have my meds renewed. I figure I'd bring in my latest MRI CD and the report to him, as well, so he will know what's going on. Now, remember ... he's the doctor my surgeon referred me to when I started having new problems last summer.

He brings up my films on his computer and with me standing in back of him, points out all the new problems I'm having. He says with emphasis "Yes, you're going to need surgery to correct what's wrong. There's no other way"

I feel doomed.
